【历史沿革】
1573年，明朝万历元年，创立端溪书院。
1708年，清朝康熙四十七年，改建为天章书院。
1757年，清朝乾隆二十二年，复名为端溪书院。
1905年，清朝光绪三十一年，在端溪书院原址创办肇庆府中学堂。此为现代肇中的正式开端。
1912年，民国元年，改名为省立肇庆中学。
1925年，民国十四年，改名为省立第七中学。
1935年，民国二十四年，复名为省立肇庆中学。抗日战争期间，校址曾几度迁移，1939年2月迁往德庆县金林乡，1944年又迁往广宁县木格罗家祠，1945年9月迁回原址。
1949年11月，学校正式定名为广东肇庆中学。
1971年2月，改名为肇庆市第三中学，简称市三中。
1978年4月，复名为广东肇庆中学。
2001年9月，实行初高中分开办学，并把高中部迁移到仙女湖畔的新校区，实施全寄宿教学。

广东肇庆中学是一所历史悠久、业绩辉煌的省重点中学，坐落在风景秀丽的国家级历史文化名城——肇庆端州。她的前身是创办于1573年的两广端溪书院，1905年改为肇庆府中学堂，素有“西江最高学府”之称。1949年11月起定名为广东肇庆中学，是全省十六所重点中学之一，以良好的校风、优秀的师资、鲜明的特色、显著的效益而赢得社会的赞誉。1994年被评为首批省一级学校， 1997年被确定为首批全国现代教育技术实验学校，2000年被定为“九五”重点课题“珠江三角洲学校教育现代化模式研究”试验学校，2002年被定为“十五”期间教育部重大教育科研基地和共青团全国青少年科技活动示范单位。学校先后荣获全国“五讲四美、为人师表”活动先进单位、全国勤工俭学先进单位、全国群众体育先进集体、广东省文明单位 、广东省体育传统项目先进单位、广东省实施《国家体育锻炼标准》先进单位、广东省优秀科技活动先进学校、“广东省职业道德建设‘百佳’单位”等称号。
广东肇庆中学师资力量雄厚，现有教职工302人，外籍教师2人。其中特级教师3人，高级教师79人，中级教师88人，硕士研究生9人，肇庆市专业技术拔尖人才2名，省市名师培养对象一批。近年来，有70多位教师获市级以上表彰奖励，28位教师获省级以上教研成果，出版专著3本、编著2本，在省级以上公开刊物发表论文66篇。
办学百年来，学校为国家培养了四万多人才。岭南画派大师黎雄才，电波传播专家焦培南，水利专家蔡瑶忠，地震专家黄玉昆，亚运会银牌获得者梁月玲、蒙玉琼，国际信息学（计算机）奥赛银牌获得者魏小亮，2004年广东高考“双料状元”申栋材等，是其中杰出的代表。一直以来，我校高考的本科率、重点率、尖子学生人数稳居全市第一，学科竞赛成绩始终在市内独占鳌头，在国内外体育比赛中获得多项优异成绩。
广东肇庆中学现有两个校区：老校区为初中部，位于两广端溪书院原址，占地36亩，建筑面积约2.4平方米；新校区为高中部，位于风景秀丽的仙女湖畔，占地182亩，建筑面积约9万平方米。目前，全校有83个班，（初中36个班，高中47个班），学生4673人。学校布局合理，环境优雅，是花园式校园；校园网功能齐全，每个教室配置了多媒体教学平台，大部分教师配备了手提电脑；图书、资料、仪器、设备、体育艺术场馆等设施完善，符合现代教育的各种需要。
学校实施“校本管理、人本发展”战略，以“制度稳校，优质立校，科研兴校，名师强校”为办学宗旨，努力实现教学质量省内一流，教科研水平国内一流的办学目标，致力于早日把我校建成一所既有传统特色、又富有现代化气息的全国名校。
Guangdong Zhaoqing Middle School
Guangdong Zhaoqing Middle School is one of the key middle schools in Guangdong Province. The school was established in November 1905. It has been called “The Best Middle School of the Xijiang River Area”.
At present, the school is made up of two campuses. The junior campus is located in the north of the ancient town built in Song Dynasty, which lies in the center of the famous historic and cultural city---Zhaoqing. The senior campus is situated outside the city, near the beautiful scenic Star Lake. Both campuses cover an area of more than 145,000 square meters.
The school is equipped with advanced teaching facilities that satisfy the educational needs and requirements of the students. There are 36 teaching classes in Junior and 47 in senior, with over 4700 students and more than 300 staff members, plus two PT volunteer teachers from Britain ( 2004---2005).
The school aims at achieving and maintaining excellence in every area of its teaching work. Benefiting from its school spirit, excellent teaching quality and environment, the school has been highly praised by the public. The school was first chosen as one of the first-class middle schools in Guangdong Province in 1994. It is also awarded the titles of the National Modern Educational Technology Experiment School and National Traditional Items of Physical Education School. Over 40,000 students have graduated from this school, many of whom have become experts, scholars, political leaders and intellectual celebrities.
In the past decade the school has demonstrated great achievements in teaching and research activities, moral education, subjects’ competitions and sports matches. Four of the students were chosen to take part in the national Olympic training teams of mathematics and information (computer science), and among them, Mr Wei Xiaoliang got the silver medal in the 9th International Information Olympic of 1997 in South Africa. The school has been enjoying a high enrollment rate in the college entrance exams, with Mr Shen Dongcai, one of the top graduates, ranking first in Guangdong Province in both arts and science in 2004 College Entrance Exam, and Shi Yan, who ranked first in Guangdong Province in English in 2005 College Entrance Exam. In addition to this, the students of the school have obtained dozens of medals in national and international sports competitions.
Guangdong Zhaoqing Middle School is enthusiastically promoting education exchanges at home and abroad. The school has friendly association and cooperation with the education departments or schools in the UK, the United States, and Australia, as well as in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Six of its English teachers have been trained in Britain for 3 or 6 months. And 15 foreign teachers or volunteers from Britain, America have been engaged to teach English in our school since the 1990s.
To keep up its reputation, the school will continue to provide the facilities and support for its staff to pursue teaching research and high teaching quality, and respond vigorously to the harmonious developments of the students, and will strive to build itself into one of the national experimental middle schools.
